Coming into ENC-1102, I felt a little accomplished already. I never would imagine completing 19 years of English learning, to be finally taking the last class necessary for US standards. Awesome!
Anyways, enough of the somewhat sad- yet melancholy celebration..Moving on, I want to express my genuine gratuity for my professor. He has shown me that in life, you can redraft and redraft until your satisfied. There's always room for improvement, that is the ultimate motto I picked up taking this course. I find it somewhat interesting that our reflection requires us to label specific ''outcomes'' we believe we have achieved over the course of ENC-1102.
Outcome 1:
This goal focuses mainly on understanding the discourse community in which your research studies. It also notes that you have an understanding of rhetorical analysis. I can say that I picked up the term ''discourse community'' in my previous English course, however, I have expanded into discourse community and rhetorical analysis by primary research conducting. Through the usage of focus groups, blog viewing and internet browsing, I was able to identify different communities that share the share ideology- but had different values on why they supported that ideology. For example, I studied a group of people who viewed veganism as a diet-plan compared to a group of people who viewed it as a religion. Same idea, different values. The research in general for the Literature Review covers this outcome.
Outcome 2-
Before taking this course, the only research I have ever done was the examination of self and peers. Just studying their overall choices and decision making- I am particularly interested in children behavior. Outcome 2 states understanding of research, primary, data collection and analyzing. Even though I am quite positive I am not an expert researcher- I have learned a lot since taking this course. ENC-1102 has taught me how to organize research and express different viewpoints effectively. I love experimenting, and this class has helped me connect one idea to another. Methods and Results covers this outcome, as well as data collection to support ideas.
Outcome 3&4&5-
Reading over sources and drafting the interpretative summary demonstrates understanding of sources. Also, the completion of the Inter textual map. Professor allowed us amply time to sort out different sources into categories and label those sections into topics. Unfortunately, my research was not heavily based on an argument trying to be proven right or wrong. I therefore cannot say I successfully learned how to demonstrate outcome 4. Even though I can clearly see the different arguments made by sources, I did not provide a side myself. Redraft, after redraft and another redraft. I'll be quite honest, I did not redraft as much as the professor would have probably suggested. However, I learned that redrafting and revising your work will clearly let you see growth and improvement.
